Dedications: Receiving a useful and mortifying book for Christmas

Merry Christmas!
Hope you find some useful things in this book!
Even at my young age I did!

Aunt J & Uncle

I’ve been trying without success to remember what book I found this dedication in – self-help, but with a witty and self-aware title. Something about fiscal responsibility and taking over the world? Something about how easy it is to find true love if you refuse to let prospective suitors leave your home? It was definitely one of those useful and yet mortifying books to get from your aunt and uncle for Christmas.

That’s one thing I’m learning as I put this project together: there are plenty of ex-Christmas gifts lurking on used book store shelves.

When I worked at a used book store, part of my duties involved packing up books for internet orders. I wrapped and labelled between 200 and 500 books a week – which meant peeking in a lot of books. Every so often, I’d find a great dedication – something cute, funny, or decades old. By the time I left the store, I had dozens and dozens of them.

Now I finally have somewhere to put them – and you can find a new dedication here every Friday.

Have any of your previously loved books come with notes from past owners? Send them my way!
